Accountant (Accounts Manager)

About the role

The St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla Trading and Development Company Limited (TDC) is looking for an Accountant to manage its accounting function in Basseterre. The role covers accounts receivable and payable, month-end and year-end close, management accounts, budgets, regulatory returns and mentorship of junior accountants, and reports to and supports the General Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the accounting function: set targets and undertake performance reviews for direct reports.
• Oversee accounts receivable, including payment handling, petty cash and adjustments.
• Oversee accounts payable to external and internal customers and suppliers.
• Support the Operations Manager with the end-of-period close and the month-end close, including journal entries, receipts and claims recoveries.
• Oversee credit control, pre-contract and post-contract.
• Oversee the production of monthly management accounts, including bank reconciliations, trial balance, income statement, balance sheet, tax computations and sign-off.
• Oversee investments, regulatory returns to the registrar, budgets and monthly variance reporting, and the annual reinsurance adjustment.
• Oversee the annual actuarial review and the annual financial accounts, including the annual return and audit.
• Report to and support the General Manager, deputising in their absence.
• Mentor junior accountants, identify training needs and provide or request training.

Required profile

• Degree-level education.
• Must hold or be undertaking formal accounting qualifications.
• Must be undertaking or have completed the Insurance Diploma (CII).
• At least 5 years in an accounting position.
• Detailed knowledge of the Accounting Manual and of technical accounting and insurance.
