Small Animal Surgery and Shelter Medicine Faculty

About the role

The successful candidate will join the Department of Clinical Sciences at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, contributing to a forward‑thinking small animal teaching program within the pre‑clinical curriculum. The role focuses on shelter medicine, community animal health, access to veterinary care, and small animal surgery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and expertise for shelter medicine, community animal health, and access‑to‑care programs, collaborating with local shelters, NGOs, and governmental agencies.
• Coordinate and deliver the Shelter Medicine pre‑clinical rotation, integrating experiential learning with a community wellness clinic.
• Teach didactic courses and supervise small animal surgery laboratories, emphasizing spectrum‑of‑care decision‑making and One Health principles.
• Participate in curriculum development, research, and scholarly activities related to shelter medicine and community veterinary practice.
• Serve on university and departmental committees and mentor graduate students.

Required profile

• DVM or equivalent degree plus an advanced degree (MSc or equivalent); Diplomate status in Shelter Medicine or an MSc in Shelter Medicine is strongly preferred.
• Professional experience in shelter medicine, community animal health, or access‑to‑care veterinary practice, with demonstrated leadership in program oversight.
• Prior teaching experience at an AVMA‑accredited veterinary institution or equivalent.
• Evidence of scholarship or research in shelter medicine, community health, One Health, or related fields.
