Veterinary Microbiology Bacteriologist – Faculty Position

About the role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine seeks an experienced veterinary microbiology specialist to join its teaching and research team. The successful candidate will educate DVM and postgraduate students in bacteriology, mycology, and introductory virology, while contributing to the university’s diagnostic laboratory and research programs.

Key responsibilities

• Teach veterinary bacteriology, mycology, and introductory virology to professional DVM and postgraduate students, including hands‑on laboratory sessions.
• Develop and conduct independent or collaborative research projects, resulting in peer‑reviewed publications and conference presentations.
• Support the diagnostic bacteriology service within the university’s Diagnostic Laboratory and participate in faculty committees and service activities.

Required profile

• DVM, MD, or comparable degree with a PhD, preferably with thesis work in veterinary bacteriology/microbiology.
• Post‑doctoral training or Diplomate status is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and ability to secure research funding.
• Commitment to student‑centered learning and strong interpersonal communication skills.

• Culture and isolation techniques for bacterial pathogens.
• Molecular diagnostic methods (e.g., PCR, sequencing).
• Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpretation.
• Automation of microbiology workflows and laboratory information systems.
