Loss Prevention Officer

About the role

The Loss Prevention Officer is stationed at the store exit and acts as the final line of defence against shrinkage. The role protects company assets and supports profitability by deterring theft, spotting discrepancies and keeping a visible security presence, while delivering a respectful, positive customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the exit of high-risk merchandise and verify purchases against receipts to prevent scanning errors and loss.
• Inspect the exit area for hazards or obstructions that could create safety or liability risks.
• Handle attempted theft of carts or baskets of unpaid goods using non-confrontational techniques.
• Watch front-end operations and staff behaviour for signs of internal theft, such as unauthorized discounts.
• Maintain clear exit pathways so customers can move smoothly and emergency access remains open.
• Check exit security systems, including alarms and barriers, regularly.
• Act as the main contact for security personnel and law enforcement during incidents.
• Record and report incidents, suspicious activity and safety concerns in real time.
• Keep a professional, approachable presence that encourages customer confidence.

Required profile

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One to three years of retail experience preferred.
• Proven reliability and punctuality.
• Able to stand for long periods (often 6 to 8 hours per shift) and to lift up to 10 lbs occasionally.
