Faculty Position in Small Animal Surgery & Shelter Medicine

About the role

The successful candidate will join the Department of Clinical Sciences at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, reporting to the Department Head. This full‑time faculty role supports an innovative small‑animal surgery and shelter‑medicine curriculum within a forward‑thinking pre‑clinical program.

Key responsibilities

• Teach team‑taught courses in small animal surgery, shelter medicine, animal welfare, and related clinical disciplines, including didactic lectures, surgical labs, and experiential learning.
• Mentor students during laboratory sessions, community outreach, and shelter‑medicine experiences, and provide clinical consultation to faculty in the on‑campus veterinary clinic.
• Develop and maintain an independent or collaborative research program, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and present findings at national and international conferences.
• Participate in curriculum development, continuous improvement initiatives, and serve on university and departmental committees.

Required profile

• DVM or equivalent degree plus an advanced degree (MSc or equivalent); board certification in Shelter Medicine (American or European) or a PhD in addition to a DVM is highly preferred.
• Prior teaching experience at an AVMA‑accredited institution or equivalent.
• Experience with innovative, evidence‑based teaching methodologies such as active learning, simulation, and competency‑based veterinary education.
